Position Description
The San Francisco VA Medical Center is in search of applicants for ICU Nocturnist positions. In this role, the ICU Nocturnist will admit patients to the ICU and provide coverage for existing ICU patients. They will also work with the overnight medicine residents to admit patients to the ward teams and assist in cross-covering medical ward patients. They will serve as the code blue leader and participate in rapid responses. They will triage all transfer requests, and provide sign out to the ICU and ward medicine teams in the morning. The average number of ICU admissions during the night shift is typically 4 per week, with an average ICU census of 5-7 patients. The number of ward admissions is 3-4 per night and is split with the night medicine resident. Expectation is 13-15 shifts per month, from 7P to 7A. Approximate starting full-time salary is $300-330k.
The SFVAMC is a major teaching site for UCSF, and all Department of Medicine physicians enjoy a joint appointment at UCSF. Our hospital has 100 beds, with approximately 50% of the beds occupied by medical patients. Successful candidates will be excellent clinicians with a passion for inpatient medicine. They will demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, have an interest in working with UCSF trainees, and be committed to providing the best care possible for our Veterans. Candidates must possess an MD, DO, or equivalent degree and be board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine. Candidates will become a member of the Pulmonary/Critical Care/Sleep/Allergy Medicine section at SFVA. Additional training in Pulmonary or Critical Care Medicine is not required, but desirable. Candidates must be US citizens and have a valid US medical license. Applicants must also be eligible for appointment at the VA.
