Ambulatory Care Curriculum Workgroup

The APCCMPD Ambulatory Care Curriculum Workgroup (ACWG) serve as Section Editors for each teaching script within the 2-Year Ambulatory Care Curriculum. As Section Editors, the Workgroup maintains, updates, and disseminates the 40-topic ambulatory management curriculum to ensure current best practices and medical evidence are reflected. The APCCMPD ACWG reviews each teaching script annually.

What is the Ambulatory Care Curriculum?

The 2-Year Pulmonary Ambulatory Curriculum was developed to enhance and standardize fellowship training in the outpatient pulmonology setting. The University of Pennsylvania developed(1) and piloted a novel longitudinal outpatient pulmonary fellowship curriculum. Implementation of this curriculum was then studied and validated between July 2017–June 2019 at Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship Programs of varying sizes and geographic locations. The ambulatory curriculum was well-received by fellows, faculty and Program Directors and positively impacted perceptions of ambulatory education and self-perceived preparedness for independent practice(2). The curriculum provides a standardized, feasible, and exportable way to address an unmet need in PCCM fellowship education.

The curriculum consists of a series of literature-based teaching scripts on 40 topics in the ambulatory pulmonology setting. These teaching scripts are intended to serve as the foundation for twice-monthly small group teaching sessions.
