APCCMPD Award for Medical Education Research
 


NOMINATION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 3, 2025


Purpose

The APCCMPD Award for Medical Education Research recognizes outstanding contributions and commitment to medical education research in undergraduate or graduate medical education in pulmonary, critical care, and pulmonary/critical care medicine. Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, faculty members, junior faculty and Fellows are encouraged to submit their abstracts.
  • The APCCMPD Award for Medical Education Research is awarded to one APCCMPD member annually.
  • Applicants must submit an abstract describing successful research (with preliminary outcomes) in medical education accomplished within their training program.
  • Abstracts must describe the methods used.
  • Abstracts must provide preliminary outcomes and results data.

The APCCMPD values all contributions to medical education and would like to provide ways for medical educators to further enhance their CV's. All authors and their abstracts, regardless of award status, will be recognized in APCCMPD’s quarterly newsletter, on the APCCMPD website, and in the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference Awards Program, as well as given the opportunity to present a scientific poster of their abstract at the APCCMPD Annual Conference.

Eligibility and Award Criteria

A recipient of the APCCMPD Award for Medical Education Research will be a Program Director, Associate Program Director, faculty member or Fellow within an APCCMPD member fellowship program.

Abstract Submission Requirements

To be considered for this award, upload one single PDF* file that includes elements outlined in the APCCMPD Abstract Award for Medical Education Research Requirements document.

The online abstract submission form will require the following for completion:

  • Name, email address, academic title and institution for each contributing author.
  • One author listed should be a Program Director or Associate Program Director of an APCCMPD member program.
  • A .jpg-format color photograph of each author (head and shoulders). Headshots will be used in the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference Awards Program. Submitted headshots will not be shared with the Awards Review Committee. 
  • Confirmation that, if selected, the awardee will attend the APCCMPD Annual Conference.

*Guidance to convert a document to a PDF:

  1. Open the document: Open the file you wish to convert to PDF.
  2. Access the "Save As" option: Click on "File" and then "Save As".
  3. Choose PDF as the file type: In the "Save as type" dropdown menu, select "PDF (*.pdf)".

Abstract Grading

All abstracts will be anonymized prior to the Awards Review Committee reviewing the submitted abstracts. All abstracts will be graded on the quality of the abstract submission, as well as the innovation and novelty of the research project presented in the abstract. Abstracts that do not provide preliminary outcomes and results data will not be considered and not be invited to present a poster at the APCCMPD Annual Conference or present their abstract in the APCCMPD Annual Conference Awards Program.

Categories Considered:

  1. Clarity and Completeness: The abstract should effectively communicate the research project and its findings.
  2. Innovation and Novelty: The award aims to recognize outstanding contributions to the field. Innovation is a key factor in determining significance.
  3. Methodology: Sound methodology is crucial for ensuring the validity and reliability of the research findings.
  4. Preliminary Outcomes and Results: The award recognizes successful research with preliminary outcomes. The strength of the preliminary findings is a key consideration.
  5. Overall Impact: The award seeks to recognize research that can make a meaningful contribution to the field.

 Awardee Recognition

The APCCMPD values all contributions to medical education and would like to provide ways for Medical Educators to further enhance their CV's. All authors and their abstracts, regardless of award status, will be recognized on the APCCMPD website. All abstract submitters will be invited to present a poster of their abstract at the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference.
  • Additionally, the awardee will be invited to present their abstract at the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference from March 4-6, in Scottsdale, AZ.
  • If the award recipient is a Fellow-in-Training, the awarded Fellow will receive up to 2 nights hotel, 30-day advance purchase coach airfare, and complimentary registration to the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference.
  • If the award recipient is a Program Director, Associate Program Director, or faculty member of a fellowship program, the awardee will receive complimentary registration to the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference.
