The University of Texas Southwestern is actively recruiting for our one-year Lung Transplant Pulmonary Fellowship training position to begin on July 1, 2027 in Dallas, Texas.

Program Overview

UT Southwestern’s Lung Transplant Fellowship Program provides comprehensive training in all aspects of lung transplantation. The program places significant emphasis on adopting a multidisciplinary approach to both patient care and education. Fellows receive hands-on training in the assessment and treatment of both pre- and post-transplant patients. This includes pre-transplant evaluations, postoperative care, and long-term follow-up. In addition, fellows gain experience in management of mechanical circulatory support, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and learn to utilize ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) in the recovery of donor lungs. Abundant opportunities for research are available.  UT 

The UT Southwestern Lung Transplant Program is renowned for its high transplant volume, offering fellows the opportunity to encounter a variety of challenging cases. This exposure serves to augment fellows’ clinical proficiency and skill set. The educational curriculum of the Program incorporates a well-organized and systematic approach to learning.

  • Subspecialized pre-transplant programs to optimize medical care for patients with COPD, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, CTEPH, and cystic fibrosis
  • Platinum Center of Excellence for ECMO, as designated by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO)
  • Special expertise in complex and multiorgan transplantation (heart-lung, lung-kidney, liver-kidney)

Eligibility requirements

UT Southwestern Medical Center prides itself on training Fellows to become outstanding physician-educators equipped to contribute to moving the field forward through research. The applicant should have completed (or be completing) fellowship training in either or both Pulmonary Disease or Critical Care Medicine, with ABMS board certification or eligibility encouraged. We welcome applications from J1-visa-eligible candidates who have successfully taken the USMLE Steps 1-3 exam sequence.
