Fellow Recruitment Committee

 

NOMINATION DEADLINE: March 31, 2025


The Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) is now accepting nominations for volunteer positions on the Fellow Recruitment Committee.

Committee Charge

The Fellow Recruitment Committee is tasked with drafting and updating guidance and recommendations for our membership on critical topics related to the recruitment and selection of fellowship trainees. This document outlines the charge and responsibilities of the committee, as well as the specific areas of focus for their work.

Roles and Responsibilities

The committee is will provide evidence-based, practical, and forward-thinking recommendations to ensure a fair, transparent, and effective recruitment process for fellowship trainees.

The committee will address the following key topics:

  • Interview Formats

  • Use of ERAS Application Innovations, such as signaling

  • Post Interview Communication

Composition and Terms

  • The BOD will initially appoint a Committee Chair and Vice Chair.
    • The Chair will serve a 2-year term and be eligible for reappointment for one additional 2-year term, for a total of 4 years.
    • Once the Chair ascends to Immediate Past Chair, the Vice Chair will assume the role of Chair.
    • The Committee will be comprised of 9 members at large, initially appointed by the BOD from among members who previously served on task forces related to trainee recruitment and from an open call to the membership. 
  • Once appointed, each member will serve a 2-year term and be eligible for reappointment for one additional 2-year term, for a total of 4 years.
    • Open seats will then be filled through the annual call for nomination process.

Eligibility Criteria

  • All applicants must be a current or former Program Director, Associate Program Director, or serve as Faculty within a graduate or undergraduate medicine program.
  • All members must be from a current member program of the APCCMPD.

Attendance and Participation Policy

  • The Fellow Recruitment Committee will meet by conference call, at least quarterly and more frequently when developing and evaluating recommendations. 
  • Applicants should have, and be willing to, spend at least 3-4 hours when developing and evaluating recommendations.

Nomination Process

Once constituted, the Fellow Recruitment Committee vacancies shall be filled in the following manner:

  • In each election year, a Call for Nominations will be sent to all active members of the APCCMPD.
  • The Chair and Vice-Chair shall review all committee members to ensure they meet the qualifications.
  • The sitting members of the Committee on Fellowship Trainee Recruitment shall vote on the eligible applicants. Those with the highest number of votes shall be selected for nomination. If a tie vote occurs for the last member of the committee, the Chair may cast the deciding vote. Final appointments to the committee will be made by the APCCMPD BOD.

Required Nomination Material to be Submitted for the Fellow Recruitment Committee

  • Up-to-date Biosketch or CV
  • Completed Online Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (view APCCMPD Leadership COI Policy)
  • Statement of Commitment and Purpose describing their:
    • Purpose for why they want to serve on the APCCMPD Fellow Recruitment Committee.
    • Statement of willingness to participate in one conference call each year and spend up to 3-4 hours per the month of when developing and evaluating recommendations
