Member Survey Committee

 
NOMINATION DEADLINE: JANUARY 10, 2022 

The Association of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) is now accepting nominations for volunteer positions on the Member Survey Committee.

Committee Charge

The APCCMPD Member Survey Committee (MSC) will closely examine the value and process of disseminating surveys on behalf of APCCMPD members and those intended for individual research projects. The Task Force will not evaluate the value of the Annual Benchmarking Survey, the Annual Fellows Survey, or surveys regarding national policy issues. 

Roles and Responsibilities

The Task Force will consider the existing Survey Dissemination Policy and make recommendations on the following:

  • Determine a set of criteria for what type of surveys are useful to the APCCMPD and its membership and align with the purpose, mission, and values of the APCCMPD.
  • Determine the frequency of survey dissemination, including a prioritization framework for how surveys are reviewed and disseminated.
  • Assess the value of surveys intended for dissemination to Fellows-in-Training and, if deemed valuable, a process for how surveys are sent to Fellows.
  • Make necessary revisions to the Survey Dissemination Policy to support the work of the MSC.
  • The MSC will review surveys submitted for dissemination to the APCCMPD membership and recommend to the APCCMPD Board of Directors (BOD) which surveys shall be disseminated and prioritize their dissemination.
  • MSC members who are listed as investigators on a submitted survey will be recused from reviewing all surveys under consideration.

Composition

The MSC, when fully constituted, shall have no fewer than six members-at-large. Each member shall be a current or former Training Program Director, Associate Program Director, or serve as faculty within a graduate or undergraduate medicine program. All members must be from a current member program of the APCCMPD.

Once constituted, vacant seats shall be filled by a nomination process from within the APCCMPD membership.

Term: MSC members shall be eligible for reappointment annually, for up to three terms. The MSC Chair and Vice-Chair will make a recommendation regarding the reappointment of the MSC member to the APCCMPD BOD each March.

Chair: The Chair shall serve a 2-year term independent from any term served as a member of the MSC. The Chair is eligible for reappointment every two years, pending approval of the BOD. The Chair serves as liaison between the full committee and BOD. 

Immediate Past Chair: The Immediate Past Chair can serve in an Ex-officio capacity for two years.

Attendance and Participation Policy

  • The MSC meetings will be held on a quarterly basis. 
  • Applicants should have, and be willing to, spend at least 2-3 hours/quarter participating in committee work.
  • Members will be expected to attend two-thirds of the scheduled teleconferences each year.
  • In the event that a member is unable to participate in a scheduled meeting/teleconference, they are expected to notify APCCMPD staff prior to the meeting.
  • If a member fails to meet the attendance requirements of the MSC, the Chair will contact the member directly to discuss resolutions to satisfy the MSC member’s responsibilities. If the member continues to fail to meet the attendance requirements, the member may be asked to step down from the MSC. Requesting the MSC member to step down is at the discretion of the MSC Chair and Vice-Chair.

Required Nomination Material to be Submitted for the Member Survey Committee

  • Up-to-date Biosketch
  • Completed Online Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (view APCCMPD Leadership COI Policy)
  • Statement of Commitment and Purpose including:
    • Why the applicant wants to serve on the APCCMPD MSC.
    • Their experience with survey development and design.
    • Statement of willingness to participate in all quarterly conference calls each year and spend up to 2-3 hours/quarter on committee work.

Nomination Process

Member Survey Committee vacancies shall be filled in the following manner:

  • In the fall of each election year, a Call for Member Survey Committee Nominations will be sent to all active members of the APCCMPD.
  • This Call for Nominations will be sent via blast e-mail to the membership, posted on the APCCMPD website, and announced at the APCCMPD member meeting held in conjunction with CHEST.
  • The Chair and Vice-Chair shall review all committee members to ensure they meet the qualifications.
  • The sitting members of the MSC shall vote on the eligible applicants. Those with the highest number of votes shall be selected for nomination. If a tie vote occurs for the last member of the committee, the Chair may cast the deciding vote. Final appointments to the committee will be made by the APCCMPD BOD.
