APCCMPD Award for Novel Fellowship Education Implementation
 

NOMINATION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 3, 2025

Purpose 

The APCCMPD Award for Novel Fellowship Education Implementation recognizes outstanding contributions to fellowship medical education and training through the development of novel and innovative curricular development in pulmonary, critical care, and pulmonary/critical care medicine. Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, faculty members, junior faculty and Fellows are encouraged to submit their abstracts. 

  • The APCCMPD Award for Novel Fellowship Education Implementation is awarded to one APCCMPD member annually.
  • Applicants must submit an abstract describing a successful innovative educational method they have applied to their training program.
  • A recipient of the abstract award will be a Program Director, Associate Program Director, faculty member or Fellow within an APCCMPD member fellowship program.
  • Abstracts submitted for the ATS Innovations Award are eligible for the APCCMPD Award for Novel Fellowship Education Implementation.

The APCCMPD values all contributions to medical education and would like to provide ways for medical educators to further enhance their CV's. All authors and their abstracts, regardless of award status, will be recognized on the APCCMPD website, as well as given the opportunity to present a poster of their abstract at the APCCMPD Annual Conference.

Eligibility and Award Criteria 

A recipient of the APCCMPD Award for Novel Fellowship Education Implementation will be a Program Director, Associate Program Director, faculty member or Fellow within an APCCMPD member fellowship program. 

Abstract Submission Requirements

To be considered for this award, upload one single .PDF file* that includes elements outlined in the APCCMPD Award for Novel Medical Education Implementation Requirements document.

The online abstract submission form will require the following for completion:

  • Name, email address, academic title and institution for each contributing author.
  • A .jpg-format color photograph of each author (head and shoulders). Headshots will be used in the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference Awards Program. Submitted headshots will not be shared with the Awards Review Committee. 
  • Confirmation that, if selected, the awardee will attend the APCCMPD Annual Conference.

  1. Open the document: Open the file you wish to convert to PDF.
  2. Access the "Save As" option: Click on "File" and then "Save As".
  3. Choose PDF as the file type: In the "Save as type" dropdown menu, select "PDF (*.pdf)".

Abstract Grading

All abstracts will be anonymized prior to the Awards Review Committee reviewing the submitted abstracts. All abstracts will be graded on the quality of the abstract submission, as well as the innovation and novelty of the educational program presented in the abstract.

The following categories will be considered:

  1. Clarity and Completeness: A clear and well-presented abstract is essential for effective communication of the educational innovation.
  2. Innovation and Novelty: This award specifically recognizes novel contributions to fellowship education.
  3. Impact and Effectiveness: The effectiveness of the educational innovation is crucial for its value and potential for wider adoption.
  4. Methodology and Implementation: A well-defined methodology ensures the rigor and reproducibility of the educational innovation.
  5. Relevance to Pulmonary, Critical Care, and/or PCCM: The award is specifically for contributions to these medical specialties.

Awardee Recognition

The APCCMPD values all contributions to medical education and would like to provide ways for Medical Educators to further enhance their CV's. All authors and their abstracts, regardless of award status, will be recognized on the APCCMPD website. All abstract submitters will be invited to present a poster of their abstract at the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference.

  • The awardee will be invited to present their abstract at the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference from March 4-6, 2026 in Scottsdale, AZ.
  • If the award recipient is a Fellow-in-Training, the awarded Fellow will receive up to 2 nights hotel, 30-day advance purchase coach airfare, and complimentary registration to the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference.
  • If the award recipient is a PD, APD or faculty member of a fellowship program, the awardee will receive complimentary registration to the APCCMPD 2026 Annual Conference.
