Conference Update

Monday, March 9, 2020
As the COVID-19 outbreak continue to evolve, the APCCMPD has continued to see our members face travel bans preventing them from domestic travel. The APCCMPD will not be holding the 2020 Annual Conference in Fort Lauderdale and instead will host the conference virtually.

The conference will be held using Zoom, a virtual meeting platform. We kindly request all meeting participants download the software prior to the conference. Specific login instructions will be sent one day prior to the start of the conference, via email, to all registered attendees.

The COVID-19 outbreak has been a fast-moving issue that has continued to evolve. The APCCMPD Board of Directors (BOD) has been in close and frequent communication regarding its effect on the 2020 APCCMPD Annual Conference next week.

Currently many institutions have established domestic travel restrictions for their faculty and staff, and the state of Florida has declared a state of emergency. As a result, the APCCMPD BOD has moved the live meeting to a virtual format. We are no longer meeting in Fort Lauderdale and will instead be holding the conference online during the originally scheduled timeline.

At its heart, the Annual Conference is the opportunity to learn from colleagues, hear about national policy changes that impact your fellowship programs, and collaborate with medical educators from across the country. As such, we are providing all of the content using a virtual platform, keeping the agenda and session times similar to what was planned for the live conference. The APCCMPD will also provide CME credit for your participation in the virtual conference or if you choose to view archived 2020 Annual Conference material.

We realize that this is not an ideal conference format- we will all miss the networking opportunity that the live conference provides. The Board of Directors have elected to move the conference format to a virtual format rather than completely cancelling the conference for many reasons. First, there are a lot of national issues going on that we feel need to be communicated to the membership (Milestones 2.0, ACGME updates, a new ABIM call for input). Second, we are simply excited about the agenda we have put together and feel strongly that it is worth trialing an online format. Third, APCCMPD has a considerable investment in the national meeting, and not taking the opportunity to provide this content would mean a considerable loss to the organization. We have elected to move forward with the virtual format in lieu of reimbursing conference registration fees based upon these considerations.
